About Me
Welcome to my little slice of Al Gore’s Internet. If you're here, its because you had some reason to Google me. I hope this space answers some questions you may have.
I’m Tracee Marie. Daughter of Jason and Knolma. Granddaughter of Avondale and Rosetta, Numie and Isaiah. My people are from the Commonwealth of Dominica, not to be confused with the Republic. Different language, different culture; splash of British, dash of French, whole lot of African. This is important to know to know because most of what I am is because of this place. My folks speak Dominican Creole. I don't. I'm a bit salty about that but its on my bucket list.
Other things to know about me: I love Black people. Our culture, our style, our languages. The things we say, the things we don’t say. You’ll see that all throughout my work and life. Also, I am an unapologetic believer in the power of Attraction and Karma. Do good, good comes back to you. If you cant be good, go to a therapist and figure out why, dont make the rest of the planet suffer in the process.
If I had an unofficial motto to guide my work and my life it would be this line from one of the great philosophers of our time, S. Carter, “Hov did that so hopefully you wouldn't have to go through that”. I believe that it is imperative that we share stories of our failures, wins, moments of revelations so that other humans realize that they are not alone in the world. This philosophy guides all of the work that I do.
Also at 35, I have embraced the fact that everything we learned in high school was BS. It is absurd to ask someone at 18 to choose what they want to do with the rest of their lives and to actually believe they will be that until death do them part. With that said, I think about work the way I think about life. Do what you love, or at least like. Play to your strengths, do as many things as you can with integrity and joy.
My strengths are improving upon what already exists, being the glue in teams that connects personalities and ideas; seeing beauty and opportunity in spaces and places that have often been disregarded and using my organizational skills to increase the effectiveness in order to create peace, ease, and/or transformation. In more formal places, these skills might be called something like connecting, innovation, and project management. You’ve probably figured out by now that formality is not really my thing.
What does this look like in terms of my life?
By night: I write stories and scripts that I haven’t seen written before (thanks Toni Morrison), mostly about Black families, Black History, Black culture. When I’m not conjuring my own stories, I’m helping to produce other dope stories that I think the world needs to see. I’m trained as a documentary filmmaker but my writing and producing are my joy. I’m really good with people so I enjoy casting and wrangling people. I also love a good script edit, so if you need help working through a story, I’m your girl. You can see more about my media work HERE.
Also by night (and sometimes weekends): I’m the (better?) half of Browne Family Builders; a real estate investment and education firm I own along with my husband. We invest primarily in my hometown of Essex County, NJ. He does the education, the maintenance, and GCs the builds. I find the properties, create the design plan, and manage the search for unicorn contractors and tenants. We’re newlyweds so its literally a labour of love and learning, which we’re getting better at documenting. More on that HERE.
By day; I’m the Project Manager for Newark Trauma to Trust, the brainchild of Equal Justice USA; an organization that works at the intersection of public health, racial equity, and criminal justice. EJUSA’s goals is to transform our criminal justice from one that harms to one that heals. In my role, I run the logistics behind our signature training Trauma to Trust. Communications, marketing, people management, training design, coordinating schedules; you name it, I do it in order for our training to run smoothly. It’s hard to transform lives if i’s arent dotted and t’s arent crossed.
For more fun: Lately I’ve been nesting hard so Im on a design kick for my own house. My downtime is spent stalking IG and Pinterest for inexpensive but fly ideas for my home. There may or not be some Youtube videos of designs successes and fails HERE.
Sounds like alot but really it’s all in the same vein. Putting in whats missing. Revealing the beauty that’s always been. Keeping things organized so more beautiful things can get done.Telling the story so other folks learn from my wins and losses. Also, I dont have cable or kids so basically my waking hours are for me. Enjoy! Any questions, want to work with me, just want to say hi, contact me HERE
